The South Shore Young Professionals took over Sam Diego’s Restaurant in Plymouth to celebrate “El Dieciocho de Mayo.” If you did not attend – you missed a great event and opportunity to network with over 65 South Shore Young Professionals. Thank you to our May event sponsor, Kevin Galleriani from Cape Auto Body. Cape Auto Body also contributed two raffle prizes for free oil changes won by Leon Lopes of Re/Max Paramount and Celeste Walcott, CPA.

Rob Hakala, the morning radio personality from WATD 95.9, was present to give away the “WATD Triple Play”. The Triple Play is an opportunity for one lucky SSYP attendee to showcase their business on the local morning radio show including three advertising spots. Susana Murphy of Re/Max Paramount was this month’s winner.

SSYP also welcomed Special Olympics Plymouth athletes Darin Rowell and Gabby Sabatini and their coach, Shelly Bryant. Thousands of athletes like Gabby and Darinwill compete in the Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) Summer Games taking place at Harvard and Boston Universities on June 18-20, 2010. Jay O’Brien, SOMA’s South Section Director, and Martha Dove, SOMA’s Director of Volunteers, encouraged SSYP to volunteer at the event, or throughout the year with teams like Shelly’s Plymouth team. There are three ways you can get involved with SOMA: as a coach or assistant coach, as a unified partner (non-disabled teammate), or as an event volunteer (either day-of event, or with an event planning team). Mike Sheehan and Jason Horwitz will be organizing a team of SSYP volunteers for SOMA’s Summer Games, so please check out the South Shore Young Professionals website for more details. If you are interested in volunteering with Special Olympics generally, please contact the SOMA office at 508-821-3635 or email Jay Obrien.

The evening was filled with lively discussion, Sam Diego appetizers and, of course, libations. A number of attendees are joining SSYP as registered members and taking advantage of the discounted monthly admission and other benefits. Have you?

Thank you again to our sponsor and also to our hosts, Sam Diego’s. And thank you to everyone who came out to make this a great event.
