South Shore Young Professionals’ First Charity Golf Tourney a Success
The first Charity Golf Tourney for the South Shore Young Professionals, held at the South Shore Country Club in Hingham on September 17, 2010, raised $5000 for the Hingham-based charity Friendship Home, Inc.
The SSYP board presented the $5000 check to Friendship Home on October 20th.
The proceeds of the tournament are to aid in the completion of the charity’s “Home with a Heart” (a facility currently under construction which will provide day and evening programs for those they serve and the community, as well as overnight retreats and respite for anywhere from 1 night to 2 weeks for people with developmental disabilities).
The funds will also assist with their continuing Club programs and their new Bridges to Work Vocation Program that provides opportunities for career exploration, assessment, job matching, and community employment.

The morning of the golf tournament dawned with gray, rainy skies, but cleared just in time for a 12:30pm shotgun start. The wet day didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. Broadcast live at 95.9 WATD-FM, the tourney ran from 12 – 10pm. The winning team for the event included Dave Ellis, Brienne Mahon, Ryan Conachen, and Eric Adams.
Corporate sponsors for the tournament were as follows: Norfolk Ram, Horizon Beverages, Cape Medical Supply, Atlantic Properties, Joan Ankner, Triffletti & Costa P.C., Rockland Trust, Karen Mullaney CPA, Crayon College, Northeast Traffic Control, Glynn Electric, Pink Berry, Rogers & Gray Insurance Agency, Able Restoration, A.W. Perry Inc., Ameriprise Financial, Dry Cleaner by Val, Snow & Jones Kitchen & Bath Solutions, and Cape Auto Body.
Following a fun and competitive afternoon of golf, participants enjoyed a cocktail hour and a steak and chicken dinner by Rafael’s at the South Shore Country Club. The highlight of the day was the live auction held after dinner and emceed by comedian John Turco. Prizes included a one-week Puerto Rican Condo Vacation (courtesy of the Sheehan Family) and a South African Safari for 2 (courtesy of Delta Marketing). Good times continued until 10pm.
In addition to the live auction, funds were raised through a silent auction, raffle, tournament entry fees, and dinner reservations.
The SSYP is proud to support an organization that is doing so much to improve the lives of others. Since 1999, Friendship Home has been working to enrich the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families through quality respite and support services provided in a safe and caring environment.
